Toners that make us feel extra clean but not everyone needs a toner. A toner's main function is to eliminate excess dirt, leaving your skin feeling refreshed with tightened pores.

Oily skin can use a toner with witch hazel, alcohol, salicylic acid or glycolic acid, but some of these may irritate skin. Witch hazel may feel cool to the face and warm for the soul but doesn't remove all the dirt, according to our lab test.

Some toners are beautifully packaged, while others tout their gentleness. But we measured the efficacy by how well the toner got rid of traces of dirt and how it made us feel overall.
